Recycling

In 2007 Jackson River Enterprises recycled over 2,000,000 pounds of recyclable material. Recycling is very important. It decreases the amount of trash going into the landfills and increases commerce in our area. JRE offers 8 community trailers located throughout the Alleghany Highlands.

We can recycle office paper, shredded paper, schoolwork papers (homework, test papers, etc.), notebook paper, hardcover books, paperback books, catalogues, magazines, sales papers and other inserts along with the newspaper.

You do not have to remove the labels.  We recycle plastics with the numbers 1 through 7.  These numbers are found inside the recycling sign on the container and is most commonly located on the bottom of the container.  We do not recycle plastic grocery bags, so please return them to the store from which you received them so they may be recycled.



Here are a few examples of different types of plastics we recycle and what number they are identified by: 
Number 1 Plastics - Soft drink, water and beer bottles; mouthwash bottles; peanut butter containers; salad dressing and vegetable oil containers; frozen food trays.
Number 2 Plastics - Milk jugs, juice bottles, bleach, detergent and household cleaner bottles; shampoo bottles, butter and yogurt tubs.
Number 3 Plastics - Window cleaner and detergent bottles, shampoo bottles and cooking oil bottles.
Number 4 Plastics - Squeezable bottles and frozen food trays.
Number 5 Plastics - Yogurt containers, syrup bottles, ketchup bottles and medicine bottles.
Number 6 Plastics - Disposable plastic plates and cups, egg cartons, aspirin bottles and CD cases.
Number 7 Plastics - Three and five gallon water bottles and certain food containers.
